When most Americans think about a polling place, a high school gym or a local church springs to mind.

But not in many places in the United States.

In many municipalities, polling places are tucked away in some unexpected locations — such as private homes, bars and auto repair shops.

This project is a look at some of the more interesting places where Americans practice their Democratic rights.
